Confederation of Timber Industries
The Confederation of Timber Industries (CTI) was launched on 10 June 2015, pioneered by the Timber Trade Federation (TTF). The launch of the new organisation was timed to follow the general election on 7th May.
The CTI provides an umbrella organisation for the timber supply chain, representing producers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, trade associations and professional organisations. It was originally intended to include the British Woodworking Federation, however they withdrew from merger talks with TTF saying “the proposals put forward could not meet the agenda of the two organisations in a realistic timeframe”.
On 12 March 2015, TTF president Stephen King said: “There is no doubt that there has been total support for the new Confederation of Timber Industries and the key themes of greater political engagement, developing the future education and skills agenda and a clear focus on quality across the supply chain. These have gained absolute agreement from all member groups…. The desire and energy across the supply chain to create a united voice, to champion the interests of a world class timber industry and the wider interests of all those who use wood across the supply chain, has been very strong.”
At its launch, BRE chief executive Dr Peter Bonfield said, “This Industry has needed a stronger joined up voice for a very long time. This is a great moment for the Timber Industries to demonstrate their combined strength and showcase the Industry.”
The appointment of chief executive Dirk Vennix was announced in June 2015. Vennix said "I am looking forward to talking to all stakeholders in the timber supply chain and building more relationships with a wide range of important partners… we will establish an independent confederation that is open to all other associations to join. This will mean that we are able to work through committees and forums, as well as benefit from the expertise of companies and other trade association members, with similar concerns and interests.”
The CTI is based at the Building Centre in Store Street, London.
